I’ve always been and will always be a horse girl.. so I wanted to share a passage that’s on my heart that combines my love for horses with my awe of the Word:
Proverbs 21:31 says, “The horse is made ready for the day of battle, but the victory belongs to the Lord.”
This verse conveys a powerful message about the relationship between human effort and divine intervention. Just as a soldier would prepare his horse for battle, we are called to be diligent, responsible, and proactive in our endeavors. We are to trust in God’s Providence. This verse reminds us that while preparation and effort are essential, the ultimate success and victory come from God. And however we may prepare and plan, we must ultimately surrender control to God’s will. For God knows our limitations, and wants us to rely on Him for wisdom and strength especially during difficult times. We are to acknowledge the Lord in our victories and continue to trust in His guidance by stepping forward in obedience and confidence.
I love this verse because it reminds me of the bond humans and horses can share, but mostly because it displays that there is a balance between our own effort and divine intervention. It teaches us to prepare diligently and act responsibly while placing our trust in God’s ultimate sovereignty and wisdom. By doing so, we find assurance that victory, in whatever form it may take, ultimately belongs to the Lord.
I was born to a mother with an eternal passion for horses, who had rescued and lovingly “broken” a wild mustang before I came into the world. Before the time I arrived this mustang was part of our family. My entire childhood into my teenage years were spent loving that black beauty mustang, and since, horses have always been immensely special to me. Through the blessed life I was given and my family who value horses, I’ve learned strength, trust, empathy, patience and humility. I’ve learned that my most healing place to let go of tears is at the muzzle of my faithful steed.
This verse speaks to me today, as I am embarking on the journey of wellness coaching, because I trust that God has put the experiences and personal struggle in my life so that I may go and help others through similar circumstances. I chose to be obedient and step forward as I have been prepared for this- but the glory will always be to God.
